Most of the people are certain that morality cannot exist without a belief in God.But is that true ? If you take into consideration the facts ,you can understand that there is no actual relationship between religion and morality. Moral codes were there before the rise of religions .
Religions such as Buddhism are atheistic religions. They do not have any belief in .They only follow some moral codes .No one could argue that Buddhists does not have any morality .In today's world Buddhism remains to be one among the true peaceful religions. Followers of Buddhism are refrained from eating meat but followers of other religions eats meat .From the above example one can easily understand the fact the moral codes followed by different religions are different and one cannot say which moral code is best.
Anonymity and Morality
Our behavior changes with environment in which we are.Anonymity helps a person to do things that he normally won't do.Consider a person driving a car,if he is near to his home his behavior to fellow drivers will be nice (because he knew he will have to face these people soon).
But consider the same person driving his car through a road that is hundreds of kilometers away ,it would be surprising if he shows the same polite behavior !
Why should we bother with such an example ,remember how we behaved in our school days when a teacher was around us and not around us.
True Link Between Religion and Morality
Take the case of Adolf Hitler ,most the people have the wrong idea that Hitler was an atheist, infact he was an Roman Catholic (You can read his autobiography Mein Kampf to verify my claims) .So does that mean all believers are like him?
As the days passes the number of suicide bombers and killings in the name of religion are increasing .So the fact is evident that no body had ever killed people in the name of atheism. o when you are meeting an atheist accept the fact that he too can high standards of morality .
How could a person behave morally without believing in the almighty ?
I will explain the answer to this question as simple as i can. What will we normally do when we have to make a decision in life? We normally won't look into religious texts such as holy bible ,Quaran or Bagavat Geetha to make correct decision . We humans can think and come to conclusions. Human beings are capable of making the right decisions with out the help of any books or scripts.
Warren Edward Buffet having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation is an American investor, industrialist, and philanthropist.Buffet is an atheist. He is a question mark people who believes that charity can be only done through religious institution. Gates Foundation established by is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world. The donations send to religious institutions are not usually spend on the intended purposes .
Animals and morality
The basic reason that social animals live in groups is that opportunities for survival and reproduction are much better in groups than living alone. The social behaviors of mammals are more familiar to humans. Highly social mammals such as primates and elephants have been known to exhibit traits that were once thought to be uniquely human, like empathy and altruism.
Religion was only a tool used by primitive humans to prevent others from doing socially unacceptable acts.
